About the Role

MI seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legal Policy Fellow to support our Financial Regulatory Hub under the leadership of Senior Fellow and Director of Legal Policy, James R. Copland. The Legal Policy Fellow will play a critical role in analyzing regulatory developments, drafting policy recommendations, and engaging with allied organizations to shape the regulatory landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the work of MI’s Financial Regulatory Hub, focusing on regulatory rulemaking activities within agencies such as the SEC, CFTC, FDIC, NCUA, CFPB, and others, consistent with the Hub’s mission.
  • Draft, review, and support the submission of comment letters on proposed rulemakings to advance free-market principles.
  • Collaborate with MI scholars and external partners to strengthen the impact of comment letters and policy analysis.
  • Monitor developments in administrative law, particularly as they relate to financial regulation, and provide expert guidance on emerging issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with allied organizations, coordinating on research and advocacy initiatives.
  • Conduct in-depth legal and economic research, producing briefs, reports, and other publications to inform policymakers, stakeholders, and the public.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree, with a strong foundation in law and economics.
  • Significant experience in administrative law and familiarity with regulatory processes at federal agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex legal and economic issues and articulate findings clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong alignment with MI’s mission to promote free markets, individual liberty, and the rule of law.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset, with experience working with diverse teams and external stakeholders.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $100,000-$175,000/year, based on experience and skills.
